I was using a 15 feet similar cable from Meritline which I bought for .00, which didn’t have gold plated pins. I thought this cable would get me some better quality sound, so I bought this. But I didn’t feel any noticeable difference in the quality of sound (what you hear) between these two cables. Other thing is, Monster cable is a bit stylish compared to the other cable.
I wouldn’t buy this cable anymore because of its high price. But if you want some good looking cable, and ok with the length, go for it. I am giving 4 star because of its high price.

Logitech Squeezebox Radio Music Player with Color Screen (Black) For a relatively inexpensive device, the Radio comes packed with features. I can listen to Pandora or Last.fm, choose from among all the BBC’s radio stations or use the Listen Again service to catch up on older programs, stream music from every computer in the house, play my iPod through the radio, and more. Unlike other similar devices, the Radio plays multiple formats: AAC, Windows Media, FLAC, etc. There are a number of options for adding radio stations, and though six presets is a little skimpy, you can also add stations as favorites for quick access. Sound quality probably wouldn’t satisfy a serious audiophile, but it’s very good indeed for a unit of this size and specs.

Initial setup was extremely simple and intuitive, and the radio had no trouble finding my network. It’s not perfect; it does lose connectivity every once in a while, but a restart always resolves this. Also, it will occasionally take a few tries to get it to switch from one server to another, but this is not a frequent enough problem to keep me from liking the device.

The interface is a little clunky to navigate–something I’ve found to be true of all Internet radios/music players–but it’s very attractive and can be customized. The device itself also looks good, which isn’t a major consideration but is a nice bonus. It’s small enough to fit comfortably even on my cluttered nightstand. The big dial that controls most of the functions isn’t ideal–it’s easy to turn it while you’re attempting to press it to make a selection, so that you inadvertently select the wrong thing. You do eventually get used to it, but it can be a little frustrating till you do.

My biggest complaint about the device is the alarm clock function. Unless you want to wake up to a song or radio broadcast (which doesn’t work for me–I need something more aggressive to wake me up), there are no good options for the alarm sound–everything is annoying synthesized beeps and boops, or even more annoying recorded sounds, like the one that sounds like a car alarm. To get the radio to snooze after the alarm goes off, you have to turn the control and make sure you select “snooze” instead of “turn off alarm,” which isn’t easy for me when I’ve just woken up and don’t have my glasses on. (On my old Roku Soundbridge radio, which I bought this unit to replace, all I had to do was hit the big snooze button on the top of the radio.) Worse, the most recent firmware update did something that made the alarm unreliable, and now it simply fails to go off sometimes. Fortunately, plain old alarm clocks are cheap, and I’ve started using one again so that I don’t have to rely on the Squeezebox. That’s a little disappointing, but the Radio is obviously much more than an alarm clock, and since it does so many other things so well, I don’t mind using older technology to help me wake up. Overall, this is a terrific little gadget at a fair price.

I find the picture quality excellent-regular TV-haven’t graduated to the HDTV yet, the sound is good, clicker easy to use. My entire surround sound system, amp, TV and DVD player are all Sony so it is easy to integrate and they all match in style. I watch alot of movies, recently watched Avatar and though it was a 2D version it read really great, with an almost 3D feel-but that could be technology of the film itself…Movies and regular TV have good picture quality. It plays my CD’s very nicely too. I would recommend this product for ease of use and minimalist sleek design.

Creative Labs Zen X-Fi 2 16 GB MP3 and Video Player with Touchscreen and Built-In Speaker (Black) I bought the Zen X-Fi 2 to replace my aging, but still excellent Zen Vision:M. I was looking for something smaller and lighter, plus I wanted a bigger screen and this player fit the bill. I had been looking at the Zen X-Fi, but I read that the small buttons were a bit of hassle and the screen was smaller. I also liked the idea of having a touchscreen, so I decided to get the Zen X-Fi 2.

After plugging the player into my PC and installing the software, I was prompted to update to the latest firmware, which as of this writing is 1.20.08. That installed fine, so I proceeded to check out the player and mess around with all of the options. The menus are similar to the Zen Vision:M, so navigation was easy except that the touchscreen is different and takes some getting used to. Most of the time a light tap with a fingernail works for accessing the options, but at other times you need to press a bit with the tip of your finger to get another screen to come up, adjust the volume, etc. It’s not as terrible as some people have described, but it should have been a more sensitive touchscreen because some people may press too hard and end up with dead pixels or a broken screen. I took a star off for this reason and the unresponsiveness that happens randomly. Even with the latest firmware, it’s still a bit quirky and will frustrate some people.

Overall the touchscreen is great when it’s working properly, which is about 98% of the time. It’s Creative’s first touchscreen mp3 player and maybe a few more firmware updates will solve these problems.

The software that came with is a bit of a hassle and isn’t really needed if you use something like MediaMonkey or Windows Media Player for syncing. I only use Creative’s Centrale for making playlists, which took awhile to figure out. You first need to load the music onto the player, then access the folder where the music is so that you can make a playlist. Then it’s just a matter of doing a right-click “Select all” and then another right-click to “Add to playlist.” I generally create random playlists with about 150-200 songs and add some custom audio sweepers/jingles via MediaMonkey. Then I copy these to a separate folder and run MP3 Gain to even out the audio levels for each track because the levels are usually all over the place. After that it’s just a drag ‘n drop to the Zen and then create a playlist for them. I don’t sync my player because I’ve got way too many movies, songs and albums. I find it easier to just drag n’ drop stuff when I need to.

Videos run fine on this player, but it’s important to know the proper way to encode them in order to avoid the freezing and stuttering problems that others have mentioned. I use a couple or free video converters, but the easiest one I found that works perfect for most anything is Any Video Converter. The best method for encoding 16:9 widescreen videos for the Zen X-Fi 2 is to use a resolution of 480×272. For standard 4:3 videos, 320×240 works good. You can set them higher, but the difference is negligible for the player screen itself. If you plan to watch videos on a bigger screen, use a higher screen resolution and be sure not to exceed 640×480. Bit rates should not go over 800kbps because the processor doesn’t appear to be able to handle anything higher than that without freezing or stuttering (Creative got cheap here, but considering the price…). As for the right encoding format, select avi for the container and use either mpeg4 or xvid for the codec. I recommend that you encode a short video clip and then transfer it to the player to see if it works. If it doesn’t, try a different codec until one works.

The screen only produces 18-bit color, but for the cost I’m not complaining. There’s some dithering, but it’s barely noticeable on a screen this size. The contrast is very good, which really helps to produce brighter colors and good shadow detail. The 3″ screen is a big plus for watching movies and TV shows in widescreen. I find that it’s just big enough to get lost in.

Sound quality is where the Zen X-Fi 2 really shines. It’s a few steps up from the Zen Vision:M, and after getting it tweaked to my liking it sounds awesome. The IEMs (EP-630) that come with it are excellent, which is a surprise because most companies supply really cheap ones to cut down on costs. I find these as an added bonus and makes the deal even sweeter.

With the supplied earbuds, I have my audio settings set up like this:

I settled on these settings after a few weeks of use to allow the earphones to break-in. Sound is rather tame on the low end, but I never liked a lot of bass and these earbuds are bass heavy.

Smart volume works best for the random playing of various songs where the volume differences will vary quite a bit. For albums I would probably turn it off. The type of music you listen to may also make a difference. While I use MP3Gain to help even out the volume levels of my mp3s, Smart Volume goes another step by adding compression. It does reduce the dynamic range a bit, so you may wish not to use it at all.

Bass Boost adds too much mid-bass, so turn it off unless you like a muddy, boomy sound. This might work well with crappy earbuds or earbuds weak on bass, but not with the set that comes with it.

There’s some weirdness with the X-Fi Crystalizer. If you make adjustments to it with Smart Volume on, it turns off SV resulting in more volume. If you try to turn SV back on, it doesn’t work until you shut the player off and then back on again. This must be a bug in the firmware.

The compression algorithm for Smart Volume seems a bit off as well. With the Vision:M it was pretty smooth on attack and release; with the X-Fi 2 it’s sometimes slow to attack and the gain doesn’t seem to kick in at times. I’m not sure what’s going on with it, but it’s just not a smooth as I’d like it to be. It does seem better at leveling out the bass volume, which is a plus.

The X-Fi Crystalizer–basically a multiband limiter that enhances high and low frequencies–does increase the clarity of the sound quite a bit, but be careful not to overdo it. I find that once you get over 50% the sound becomes too processed and very harsh depending on the song. I find the 40-50% range about perfect for most music genres, although I mostly listen to rock, pop, soul and R&B (old and new). If you use really crappy headphones/earbuds then setting it higher may help a bit. With this feature enabled I’m hearing stuff that I never heard before and the soundstage in much more open, wide and airy over the Zen Vision:M. This feature is similar to BBE phase correction as it delays certain frequencies, which helps to reduce the muddiness found in the lower and middle ranges. From my research the X-Fi processing on the Zen X-Fi 2 is done via software rather than with hardware, so the results aren’t quite as good as Creative’s sound cards with the X-Fi chip. The bottom line is that the Crystalizer can help restore the clarity of some poorly encoded mp3s, but don’t expect it to homogenize the sound when going from track to track. You’d need 00+ professional audio processors to do this.

The X-Fi Expand feature doesn’t sound too good to me, so I leave it off. It basically gives the music a “live” sound, but it sacrifices dynamic range to achieve it. At lower settings it doesn’t sound too bad, but after 20% the sound becomes more hollow and the soundstage more narrow. Leave it off unless you prefer the live sound and dynamics.

I should note that if you leave Smart Volume off, using the X-Fi features will make some songs distort. Why that is I do not know. I noticed distortion on some songs that had heavy bass. This is probably just a limitation of the X-Fi software rendering.

Another thing I should mention is that I had a problem with charging the player via the front USB ports on my PC. It seemed like it was charging but would never finish charging because the battery icon never stopped flashing. Browsing the Creative forums I was able to find out what the problem was and fix it. The solution was to use a rear USB port.

I think the X-Fi 2 is a steal for the price. Even with the touchscreen quirks, it still reigns as one of the best sounding mp3 players on the market today. Getting the sound to your liking may take a bit of tweaking, but once you get there it’s pure ecstasy to your ears.

Coby 4 GB Video MP3 Player with FM Radio (Red) I was looking for a cheap MP3 player that was not complicated and just to bring to work with me. I have a very boring job and work mostly by myself and I wanted a little music to help the time go by. So I came here to look around for one. It was delivered in 4 days and I tore the packaged open and was very excited to find that everything was as it was advertised. The paint on the top corner above the screen is a little scratched and the middle button is very loud when you press it. It is very very lightweight, which is a plus and also a concern for me. I feel like if i dropped this thing it would break into a million pieces as it is made out of very cheap plastic. I am not downing this device at all, I didnt expect a whole lot. It actually sounds very good, holds 4g and is very cheap, so they had to scrimp on something, which is obviously the plastic that it is made from. It is basically JUST like an Ipod, only the Ipod is made from much better plastic. That is the biggest complaint I really have with it.
