We bought two of these feeders and have used them twice so far. The first time we filled them and set the timers just to test that they worked(and they did). The second time we were away overnight and when we got back they had all opened (we assume on schedule). In the past we would have gone overnight and just left the cat extra food (she eats only dry food) and water. The problem now is that she is on medication twice a day and also she has a problem that if she eats too much too quickly she has trouble keeping it down. Fortunately her medication is in pill form and the vet recommended we use pill pockets (cat treats that hold a pill) to give them to her. The medication and dividing up the food is why we bought two of these. We wanted to spread the food into smaller quantities and we also wanted to put her medication pill pockets in with two servings of the food. When we returned she had eaten the food and the pill pockets and had kept the food down. It takes some thought and calculation to figure how many hours ahead to set the timers (and they are not too exact)but precise enough for our purposes. I researched a lot of other auto feeding systems (and really wanted even more compartments) but usually some reviewers of other models said their cats figured out how to get the food ahead of schedule. Our cat is persistent and we figured she would be one of the ones that would find a way with other units. These seem more secure and we don’t believe she has found a way to get into them (it seems it would be very difficult). The only drawback is that two compartments isn’t very many and buying multiple units gets expense. I also think they would work best with dry food as the cold packs in the bottom of each unit probably wouldn’t keep the food cold for multiple days. These are not perfect (most products aren’t) but the best I have found so far and they do the job. We are very happy with the units we bought and so thankful to have found a way to be gone overnight!
